What happened
On October 19, 2022, at approximately 01:33 UTC, an Airbus A330-200, registration LV-FVH, was operating flight AR113 and en route from Madrid (LEMD) to Buenos Aires (SAEZ). While cruising over the Atlantic Ocean near the coast of Natal, Brazil, the aircraft encountered severe turbulence.
Despite the intensity of the atmospheric disturbance, the aircraft continued its flight path toward its destination. The flight concluded without further incident, and the aircraft landed safely at Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza) in Argentina.
The investigation
The JST reviewed the flight data regarding the encounter with turbulence during the cruise phase of the operation. The investigation focused on the flight path and the environmental conditions present during the transit over the Brazilian coastline.
